That ends a low-scoring thriller. Dolphins continue their stay at the top, with 18 points in their 5th game while the Cobras stay on 5th, with 8 points from 6 games. VICTORIOUS DOLPHINS CAPTAIN KESHAV MAHARAJ HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. On his second successful association with Prenelan Subrayen with the bat in this tournament, Maharaj says that they got off nicely and just concentrated on playing out their 50 overs. Stresses that with the wicket turning so much, they felt 160 was a good total and they got to 184. Praises his bowlers, wants to enjoy this win but also adds that there is a lot of hard work to be done before their next game.
Cape Cobras skipper, Zubayr Hamza, admits that the batting unit did not come to the party at all and credits Keshav Maharaj. Reckons that they have to get back to the drawing board and come back stronger on Saturday. Praises Aviwe Mgijima for his fighting knock. On Rory Kleinveldt's final game at this venue, Hamza feels disappointed that the team could not repay his hard work with a win in this game.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Dolphins were in all sorts of trouble, slipping downhill from 45/0 to 101/7 but a 66-run stand for the 8th wicket between Keshav Maharaj and Prenelan Subrayen took them to a fighting total. The skipper stayed unbeaten on 50 and has good chances for winning the Man Of The Match award. Here comes the presentation...
This one should have been in the bag for the Cobras. They needed one solid knock and one big partnership. An opening stand of 35 put them in good stead but then they suddenly collapsed to 60/5, totally losing momentum. A last wicket stand of 31 did push some hopes but they turned out to be false. Aviwe Mgijima was the lone warrior, with a fighting 69 but he fell short of partners.
The Dolphins needed to bowl well to defend 183 and they did. The opening spell was not that threatening but in came Keshav Maharaj and from his very first ball, which spun a mile, caused problems for the opposition batsmen. He took the first wicket to fall and then went on to take three more, ending up with a 4-fer. Prenelan Subrayen supported him well while Daryn Dupavillon came back nicely towards the end to finish things off. At one stage, the Dolphins even looked in good shape to win with a bonus point.
Happy scenes for the Dolphins but not so happy ones for Rory Kleinveldt. His final game at Newlands ends in a not-so-happy fashion but what will be more disappointing is that 184 was a target which the Cape Cobras would have believed could have been chased down. But spin was it to win as the batsmen simply could not read the ball.

Right then, just 184 to chase but the surface is looking a bit on a slower side. There is turn and bounce too. Let's see if Maharaj can do something with the ball too. Cobras were excellent with the ball. They never allowed the Dolphins to get off the hooks.Playing his final game of cricket, Kleinveldt and Paterson kept things tight in the start. The other bowlers too made sure the runs did not come out easily. Mnyaka, Ntini, and Linde too bowled brilliantly. All the bowlers who bowled bagged at least a wicket.
After opting to bat, the openers did well to add 45 for the opening wicket but once Erwee fell, we saw the wicket fall in quick succession. Soon, the score read 101/7 with Linde chipping in with a couple of wickets. It looked like they will fail to play the entire 50-overs quota but 66-run stand between Maharaj and Subrayen bailed them out and have taken the total to some respectability.
A brilliant hand from Keshav Maharaj sees Dolphins get to a decent total on the board. They will now feel that they have something to defend when they return with the ball.
